At Luxepack: a glimpse into the future of luxury packaging and beyond

Maria Costanza Candi

At the heart of the 2025 edition were traceability and anti-counterfeiting, alongside innovative materials and packaging design. ItaliaImballaggio met with some of the key players in The Portal area, dedicated to start-ups.

Continuous evolution reflected in the exhibition spaces
Monaco is a constantly evolving urban landscape, and the Grimaldi Forum is no exception, with new exhibition spaces such as The Portal, a hub for future-focused packaging, The Col’lab, a dialogue space for stakeholders involved in sustainable packaging initiatives, and the Luxe Formulation and Luxe Home areas, designed to integrate cosmetics and fragrances and promote the multisensory convergence typical of the beauty sector. It is worth noting that sustainability was central to the fair from the very beginning of the visitor experience. In collaboration with SNCF, the installation of a Luxepack-branded TGV allowed attendees to travel to the event in a sustainable and immersive way, with dedicated train carriages hosting workshops for in-depth exploration and networking.

Among the many innovations on display, ItaliaImballaggio selected some of the key players in The Portal area to offer an up-to-date perspective on the future of the sector.

Ary | Antoine Larsimont
With the M’Ary Card, the company brings to the luxury packaging market an RFID solution seamlessly integrated into the packaging, making it smart. Invisible unless approached with a smartphone, the system enables an immersive experience, provides information, grants access to augmented reality content, and manages traceability and anti-counterfeiting workflows.

Ma Balise | Philippe Henin
The solution proposed by Ma Balise consists of a fully compostable adhesive label equipped with an RFID system, enabling product tracking, anti-counterfeiting protection, and access to information. This effectively transforms the packaging into a smart, entirely eco-friendly solution.

MateriO | Quentin Hirsinger
MateriO is a database of innovative materials available to companies, designers, researchers, and professionals seeking solutions for their business. The demo application at Luxepack played on the tactile experience of a variety of materials selected according to the colour blue, chosen from over 10,000 entries in the database.

Microrelleus | Raul Garcia
Microauthenfy® is Microrelleus’ patented technology introducing a new anti-counterfeiting model based on colour-shifting micro-engraving, integrated into a digitalised solution that combines product protection, traceability, and aesthetics.

Renature | Fanny Deléage
Renature is a renewable material made from plant-based waste, borrowing the chemical characteristics of leather to offer notable barrier, aesthetic, and tactile properties, combined with a strong focus on sustainability and circularity.

Sustainable Innovation in Luxury
Among the 470 exhibitors at the fair, a selection of the most prestigious players in the luxury packaging sector, the editorial team highlighted a series of particularly interesting innovations.
Standout exhibitors included Guala Closure, presenting significant advancements in anti-counterfeiting and product integrity protection;

Nuon Medical, whose innovative technological solutions applied to beauty position the company as a pioneer also in the packaging design of its futuristic cosmetic tools;

Bormioli Luigi, which brings to market Spoturno, an entirely glass solution for both bottle and closure, combining aesthetic quality with lightweight design;

Coverpla, presenting its exclusive partnership with Heinz Glas for seven catalogue models dedicated to the luxury segment;

Hyléance Beauté, showcasing sustainable plastic solutions with particular attention to the PPWR, including three refillable options – one of the sector’s current hot topics alongside traceability;

Verpack, featuring a new foldable gift box designed for Petit Bateau, which combines material quality, packaging design, and sustainability through a flat-pack format that minimises space during transport and storage;

Altus Coating, which employs a special treatment to protect cosmetic and pharmaceutical glass products, making bottles shatterproof without compromising aesthetics or packaging design.

Finally, it is worth highlighting the leading role of the Italian Institute of Packaging, which chose the prestigious setting of Luxepack for the international debut of the Luxury Packaging Guidelines, designed for the environmental management of luxury packaging, where exclusivity, emotional appeal, and the iconic nature of the packaging must successfully meet the sustainability challenges posed by the PPWR.
