OD400 S by Emmeci: sustainability and flexibility in luxury packaging

The company, part of the Coesia Group, introduces a line dedicated to the production of wrapped rigid boxes for the luxury segment

Emmeci

High-end packaging is undergoing a concrete transformation. Alongside aesthetic requirements, demanding operational needs are emerging: production flexibility, consistency with brand values, and measurable environmental impact.

Emmeci, part of the Coesia Group, responds with OD400 S, a line designed for the production of rigid wrapped boxes dedicated to the luxury segment.

On-Demand production

With OD400 S, a new production approach is defined: fewer mechanical constraints, greater design freedom, with direct impact on line competitiveness. The turning point lies in Emmeci’s proprietary On‑Demand technology, which makes it possible to change formats without replacing mechanical molds. Compared to traditional production, it enables a reduction in format changeover times and ensures operational continuity, managing small limited edition batches and large serial productions while maintaining the same level of efficiency. Flexibility, in this case, is not a theoretical attribute: it is a measurable parameter of real productivity.

From print to matter: a tactile aesthetic

In premium packaging, the box is a sensory experience and contributes to perceived value even before opening. With OD400 S, premium papers can be used through natural blind embossing, delivering tactile and three‑dimensional surfaces without the use of inks. A choice that combines aesthetics and function: more essential packaging, easier to recycle, and aligned with the environmental expectations of contemporary luxury brands.

Efficiency, in numbers

The sustainability of OD400 S is measurable across process and logistics.

The machine’s selective gluing system allows adhesive consumption to be reduced by up to 80%, with a direct impact on costs and recyclability thanks to lower material usage. The ability to use microflute cardboard also makes it possible to reduce box weight by up to 50%, with direct effects on transport efficiency and emissions across the supply chain.

PPWR: from compliance to competitive advantage

The European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) introduces stricter criteria on reduction, recyclability, and reuse. OD400 S is already aligned with these requirements, offering lightweight, mono‑material solutions designed to facilitate recycling. In luxury, however, the issue goes beyond compliance: high‑quality packaging tends to be kept and reused, extending the relationship with the brand. Reuse, in this sense, is not an induced behaviour: it’s a design outcome.
