Beckhoff economy drive system: an economical combination of high-performance drive technology

At SPS, powerful drive technology combined cost-effectively

Beckhoff

At SPS, scheduled to take place in Parma from 26 to 28 May, Beckhoff will present its latest innovations. The AM1000 extends Beckhoff’s Motion portfolio and, when paired with the AX1000, provides users with a coordinated and cost-optimised drive system.

Efficient and compact
Key advantages include ease of use, ensured by features such as One Cable Technology (OCT), straightforward plug-and-play commissioning, and seamless integration with TwinCAT. The optimised components of this cost-effective drive system significantly reduce the space required both in the control cabinet and on the machine. In addition to its highly compact design, the front-mounted connection technology enables simple, space-saving cabling, as well as an installation-friendly system layout without gaps between devices – ideal for minimising control cabinet footprint.

The compact AM1000 servo motor, with its reduced cabling requirements, ensures maximum space efficiency in cost-sensitive automation solutions, thanks in particular to its extremely short overall length and very high power density.

Maximum integration
The combined use of the AM1000, AF1000 and AX1000 from Beckhoff creates a drive architecture optimised for high-performance motion control applications, especially in automated machinery and synchronised multi-axis systems.
The AM1000 servomotors are engineered to deliver high performance, making them suitable for highly dynamic duty cycles.

When paired with the AX1000 drives, they enable precise vector control, with advanced tuning of velocity, position and current control loops. The AX1000 integrates multi-axis synchronisation and interpolation functions, allowing deterministic motion coordination via EtherCAT distributed clock.

With the AF1000, Beckhoff also offers a variable frequency drive that provides a cost-effective solution for basic drive applications, including conveyor systems, pumps and fans. Fully integrated into the TwinCAT system via EtherCAT, it ensures the same ease of commissioning and diagnostic capabilities typically associated with servo drive technology.
Like Beckhoff servo drives, the AF1000 is commissioned using TwinCAT Drive Manager 2, enabling users to work with a familiar tool. This approach enhances control cabinet compactness while ensuring full integration with the TwinCAT environment, allowing advanced drive parameterisation, real-time diagnostics and the implementation of sophisticated control strategies.

Overall, this technological combination delivers significant benefits in terms of dynamic performance, energy efficiency and scalability, making it particularly suitable for industrial applications seeking a cost-effective solution without compromising on advanced functionality.
